What bespoke joinery means
Built for your space, not pulled off a shelf
Bespoke joinery is woodwork designed and made to measure for one specific space, rather than bought as a standard unit and forced to fit.
It costs more than flat-pack, and it earns it: the piece fits the room properly, uses better timber, and lasts for years rather than sagging in a few. When the detail matters, made-to-measure is the difference you feel every day.

Materials
Quality timber and materials, much of it local
Good joinery starts with good materials. We use quality timber and source a lot of it locally, from Whitby suppliers like MKM, with flooring from Fletcher & Woodhouse. Buying locally means we know where the materials come from and can pick the right timber for each job, rather than working with whatever is cheapest.
It is the same sourcing approach behind our Renovations work.
Structural work
Structural work, done to standard
Structural work, such as removing a wall or forming a new opening, has to meet current building regulations. We carry the work out to those standards, so your project is safe, sound and properly certified.
- Built to current building regulations.
- Inspected and signed off by building control.
- Properly certified once it is signed off.

What our clients say
-
What an AMAZING company Abbeygas of Whitby are, all the way from the owner, James.
-
Did some work for us after our upstairs radiators wouldn't work. Turned up when they said they would and the work was carried out to a great standard, and when they left couldn't tell they had been. Apart from piping hot radiators.
-
James was excellent. Great price, even better than the quote! Jobs done cleanly and efficiently. Will definitely be using James again!

Questions people ask
Joinery questions, answered
What is bespoke joinery?
Bespoke joinery is woodwork designed and made to measure for a specific space, rather than bought off the shelf. Each piece is built to fit the room and the way you use it, from the timber up. It costs more than flat-pack, and it fits properly and lasts far longer.
Do you make custom staircases and fitted wardrobes?
Yes. We design and build custom staircases, fitted wardrobes and made-to-measure furniture for your space. Because each piece is built for the room it goes in, it fits properly and lasts, rather than being forced to work around a standard size.
What materials do you use for bespoke joinery?
We use quality timber and materials, much of it sourced locally from Whitby suppliers like MKM, with flooring from Fletcher & Woodhouse. Sourcing locally means we know where the materials come from and can choose the right timber for each job.
Is structural building work covered by building regulations?
Yes. Structural work, such as removing walls or altering the structure of a building, must meet current building regulations. We carry the work out to those standards, and it is inspected and signed off by building control.
